Power Control is a handy dandy little tool I stumbled across through
various searches for software for my Cingular 2125 Windows Mobile 5
Smartphone. I downloaded it, installed it and then I smiled.
I call upon all poor souls who updated their device to HTC/Cingular's
latest ROM version to download and rejoice, for a band aid has been
found. If you are plagued with slow system speeds, this program is for
you. Let me first start off by saying TPC will overclock your
processor, and could cause some damage if you don't really know what
you are doing. This is not really something for the weak of heart or
the bad of luck with catostrophic disasters of the electrical kind.
And for the rest of us, I'll continue with my over-review of this
program. First off, from what i gather, this program gives you a few
options of how you want to overclock your device. You have a few preset
clock times and an "automatic cpu speed" option. Which automatically
sets clock speed depending on cpu load to optimize battery vs
performance. Now, I didn't rigorously send my device through a serious
set of benchmarks to calculate exactly how much performance you get
from it, but I can tell you the difference is noticable. Personally, I
use the automatic feature because I would like to keep my battery going
as long as I can. But your other choices are Ultra Slow (116MHz), Slow
(132MHz), Normal (180MHz), Fast (204MHz) and Ultra Fast (228MHz).
Theoretically, the Cingular 2125's ARM processor is capable of handling
240MHz, people are doing it on a daily basis safely, so all of these
choices would be safe.
Another option this program gives you, is the ability to run programs
at different states of the device. These states would be when the
backlight is on, dim or at user idle. I'm not going to go into this
because I do not use this option.
This program also contains OMAP clock, which lets you manually change
the processor speed anywhere from 60MHz to 372MHz. AND! It has a little
graphic that displays the cpu load! Very slick!
Also with the press of the # button, this program will also display
your current and average cpu load, as well as battery drain and power
state. Very cool features packed into this program. So if you want a
faster system, this is definitely for you. Just google it up and you
can find it.
