Overview
Cingular
's HTC made
smartphone
may be old news, but it
still makes big waves in the ocean of handheld
devices. In a world of gigantic, clunky and overpriced
Blackberries, Treos and countless PPC's,
Cingular's 2125 has packed
features in a small, everyday manageable size... and can be had for
under $50.
Upon
first glance, you
are amazed with the size. Inside your hand, you'll notice
that the Cingular 2125 feels very
comfortable and ergonomical for both righties and lefties.
The quality can also be felt, no cheap loose plastic parts.
The buttons are small enough to keep the total size to a minimum, but
large enough to avoid fat fingering any inputs. With most smartphones
and PPC's, you're stuck with a 5 way navigation button, the Cingular
2125 implements a mini joystick. There is a
quick button for the 1.3 mega pixel camera and comm-manager, as well as
a volume rocker.
With Windows
Mobile 5
onboard, the Cingular 2125 is extremely
stable. After the initial boot, you are greeted with a
homescreen that implements all of your phone information (battery
level, signal strength, EDGE or GPRS availability, voicemail
notification) in an icon bar across the top. At the bottom,
you have start menu option above the left soft key and a quick link to
the contacts above the right soft key. In between, you have a
homescreen rich with available plugins to keep you in tune with your
calendar program, profile, messages as well as a recently used program
list. Other options are easily displayed by changing the home
screen to one several included home screen themes. All of
which seamlessly converges the function of a PDA with the necessity of
a phone.
Cingular
includes a variety of software on the Cingular
2125, including
Xpress Mail, Clearview Suite and Activesync. Activesync
easily keeps your Cingular 2125 intune
with Outlook on your PC while Xpress Mail keeps you intune with your
corporate email client. The
phone itself has excellent signal strength, not once have I seen less
than 3 bars and the battery will last
through a hard day's work, and a long night of overtime. And with gobs
and gobs of third party software and freeware,
there's really no limit to what you can do with the Cingular
2125 Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone.
So if you're in the
market for a smartphone, but you want
something that will fit in your pocket and doesn't experience frequent
crashing or lack of network service, check out the Cingular
2125.
